Christmas Eve

This was our first year ever, after almost 9 years of marriage, that Brent and I spent Christmas at home. Every year prior we have headed down to Florida to spend the holiday with 20+ family members. We felt like this was finally the year to have our own Christmas. With the new house we have plenty of room to host any guests that might want to come up. Plus the kids are getting older and it is quite hard to establish your own traditions when in several different homes and being pulled in several different directions. This year was the year, the kids were really excited as were we. We kept the day pretty low key. We cleaned up some and made room for Santa to leave his presents. The kids played and I got a head start on prepping some dishes for Christmas day. We decided to go to a 4:30 Christmas Eve service, thinking that this service would be less crowded that the 6:00 service- wrong! It was so crowded that we ended up in the overflow room. This worked out fine, although next year we will leave even earlier so that we are in the main sanctuary. After the service we headed over to my cousin's house for dinner. It was a nice night. Tina had made tons of food and the kids were allowed to open their gifts to each other. It is really nice having family nearby (literally, two streets over!). Here are some pictures from Tres and Tina's:

After leaving Tres and Tina's I had envisioned us riding around the area looking at Christmas lights (a tradition from my childhood). However, it was cold and rainy and the kids were ready to get home. Plus, Brent and I had to prepare for the big day! We drove home instead and sprinkled the Reindeer food on the driveway to help the Reindeer find their way and then set out the before-mentioned- made-from-scratch cookies. Blaine wrote the note for Santa. The kids were too excited to sleep! We told them that Santa wouldn't come until after they were asleep. By 10:00 pm they were asleep and the Elves could get to work :)
